There is one studio, in Vadodara, and it makes for the whole state. Brides travel in from Ahmedabad, Surat, Anand, Nadiad, Bharuch and Godhra; from Saurashtra and Kutch the measurements are taken on a WhatsApp video call of about twenty minutes and the finished piece is couriered. Distance changes how often you come to the studio. It does not change what is made, how it is cut, or who does the embroidery.

How to choose a designer, in three questions
Every studio in Gujarat will show you beautiful photographs, so photographs are not how you tell them apart. These three questions are, and all three have checkable answers.
Is the hand work done here, or bought in? Most of what is sold as hand embroidery in India today is machine-made, and most of what really is hand-made passes through several workshops before it reaches the person whose name is on the label. Ask to see the back of a finished piece. Real hand work is slightly irregular and shows the karigar’s hand; machine versions look suspiciously perfect and lie flat.
Cut to me, or altered to fit me? Most “custom” bridal wear in India is a standard block cut down and a border changed. A garment altered to fit you is one you spend the day managing. A garment built around you is one you simply wear.
How many fittings, and when? A bridal piece gains real weight as the embroidery goes on, and weight changes how a garment sits, where it pulls and how the skirt falls when you turn. One fitting before the embroidery is how a piece ends up beautiful on a hanger and wrong on a body.
This studio’s answers are: in this room, at frames, by karigars who work with it directly; cut from your measurements, never a block; and three fittings for a bridal order, or a video call if you are far away. Judge them against anyone else’s.

How do I choose a bridal designer in Gujarat?
Ask three checkable questions. Is the hand embroidery done in the designer’s own studio or bought in from a workshop? Is the garment cut from your measurements or is a standard block being altered to fit you? And how many fittings are there as it is built, given that a piece gains weight as the embroidery goes on and weight changes how it sits? The answers separate made-to-measure from altered-to-fit faster than any photograph.
Is it worth ordering from Vadodara if I live elsewhere in Gujarat?
That depends on whether you want something cut to you. If a garment off a rack in your own city fits and you like it, buy it. If you want a piece designed for you and hand-embroidered, the distance is a smaller obstacle than it sounds: the design is settled on WhatsApp, the measurements are taken with you on a video call, and the piece is couriered.
Can a bridal lehenga be made without me visiting the studio?
Yes, and it is ordinary here. A good share of the studio’s work goes to families in the US, UK, Canada and Australia who are never measured in person. What makes it work is that measurements are taken with you on a call rather than posted to you as a form, so a badly held tape is corrected while it is still in your hand.
Do you have branches in other Gujarat cities?
No. There is one studio and one designer, on Old Padra Road in Vadodara — Baroda, as most people here still call it. Every piece that carries this name is cut there and the embroidery on it is done at a frame in that room.
How far ahead should I order?
A bridal order is four weeks at most start to finish, carrying roughly two hundred to six hundred hours of hand embroidery, so six to eight weeks before the wedding is comfortable. From November to February the studio is booked months ahead. For Navratri, come well before the season.
Do you courier anywhere in Gujarat and India?
Yes. Tell us the date you need the piece in hand rather than the date of the wedding, so the courier is planned backwards from when you will actually wear it.
