Ordering from United Kingdom

For brides in the United Kingdom

Made in Vadodara, fitted over video, and sent to you — with the one thing brides ask about first answered honestly.

The UK is the gentlest border we send to

Of the four countries the studio ships to most, Britain is the kindest to a bridal order. Under the UK–India trade agreement most Indian goods now enter tariff-free, so the customs duty that brides brace themselves for largely does not arise. What does apply is import VAT at 20% on adult clothing above £135, and a bridal order is comfortably above it.

That is worth saying plainly because the fear is usually worse than the fact. A bride ordering to Leicester is not paying a punitive tariff on top of a wedding budget — she is paying VAT, at the same rate she pays on almost everything else she buys, on a garment made for her body by the people who will answer her messages.

What customs will cost you

Free up to £135
Then Import VAT at 20%, and generally no duty

Most Indian goods enter tariff-free under the trade agreement, so expect VAT rather than duty. It is collected by your courier before delivery, not by the studio, and we will tell you the declared value before the piece ships so you can confirm the figure in advance.

All four countries side by side, and what we will and will not tell you: shipping & customs.

When to begin

The making is about twelve weeks, and the conversation, the measurements and the courier sit either side of it. British Asian weddings cluster heavily in the summer and around the August bank holiday, which means the studio is at its busiest for UK brides in spring. If you are marrying between June and September, begin talking to us before Christmas rather than after it.

Where our British brides are

The Gujarati community in Britain is old and concentrated, and Leicester in particular has kept the panetar and gharchola traditions more carefully than many families in Gujarat have. Brides from these cities usually arrive knowing exactly what they want, which makes them a pleasure to dress.

Questions

Will I pay customs duty on a lehenga sent to the UK?

Generally not — most Indian goods now enter tariff-free under the UK–India trade agreement. What you will pay is import VAT at 20% on the value above £135, which a bridal order will exceed. Your courier collects it before delivery. We declare the parcel accurately and tell you the declared value in advance so nothing arrives as a surprise.

Can I be fitted without flying to India?

Yes, and most UK brides are. Measurements are taken with you on a WhatsApp video call, in about twenty minutes — Nirali watches where the tape sits rather than sending a sheet and hoping. If you are visiting family in Gujarat before the wedding, a single studio visit is welcome but never required.

How long does it take to reach the UK?

The making is about twelve weeks. The courier leg is separate and depends on the service you choose, so we will not quote a number we cannot stand behind — what we will do is tell you the day it ships and give you the tracking. Brides marrying in the British summer should be talking to us over the winter.

Can you remake my mother’s panetar if it is here in Britain?

Yes, and it is some of the work the studio likes best. Many families brought a panetar or gharchola over decades ago and it has been in a cupboard in Leicester ever since. Send photographs first and we will tell you honestly what can be kept, what cannot, and what it would become.
