Of the four countries the studio ships to most, Britain is the kindest to a bridal order. Under the UK–India trade agreement most Indian goods now enter tariff-free, so the customs duty that brides brace themselves for largely does not arise. What does apply is import VAT at 20% on adult clothing above £135, and a bridal order is comfortably above it.
That is worth saying plainly because the fear is usually worse than the fact. A bride ordering to Leicester is not paying a punitive tariff on top of a wedding budget — she is paying VAT, at the same rate she pays on almost everything else she buys, on a garment made for her body by the people who will answer her messages.

When to begin
The making is four weeks at most, and the conversation, the measurements and the courier sit either side of it. British Asian weddings cluster heavily in the summer and around the August bank holiday, which means the studio is at its busiest for UK brides in spring. If you are marrying between June and September, begin talking to us before Christmas rather than after it.
How you pay from the United Kingdom
The quote is in Indian rupees, because that is what the cloth, the karigars' hours and the courier are paid in. You have the figure before anything is cut, and nothing begins until you do. Your bank or a transfer service shows you the rate in pounds on the day, so you know what the piece costs in your own money before you agree to it, not after.
Payment is by bank transfer to the studio in India, in stages that follow the making rather than the whole sum before any of it exists. The stages are set out in writing on the same WhatsApp thread before the cloth is cut, and you have a receipt for each. An international transfer usually reaches an Indian account in one to three working days, which is why the first stage is agreed a few days before the cutting date rather than on it.
Account details come from the studio's own number, the one printed on this site, and from nowhere else. Nothing on this website takes a payment, and nobody will send you a payment link from another number on our behalf.
Duty, VAT or GST is separate: it is paid by you to the courier when the parcel arrives, it is never collected by the studio, and it is not inside the figure you are quoted. We tell you the declared value before the piece ships so your courier can tell you what you will owe at the door.

Your courier collects it before delivery. We declare the parcel accurately and tell you the declared value in advance so nothing arrives as a surprise.
Can I be fitted without flying to India?
Yes, and most UK brides are. Measurements are taken with you on a WhatsApp video call, in about twenty minutes — Nirali watches where the tape sits rather than sending a sheet and hoping. If you are visiting family in Gujarat before the wedding, a single studio visit is welcome but never required.
How long does it take to reach the UK?
The making is four weeks at most. The courier leg is separate and depends on the service you choose, so we will not quote a number we cannot stand behind — what we will do is tell you the day it ships and give you the tracking. Brides marrying in the British summer should be talking to us over the winter.
Can you remake my mother’s panetar if it is here in Britain?
Yes, and it is some of the work the studio likes best. Many families brought a panetar or gharchola over decades ago and it has been in a cupboard in Leicester ever since. Send photographs first and we will tell you honestly what can be kept, what cannot, and what it would become.
How do I pay for a lehenga from the United Kingdom?
By bank transfer to the studio in India, against a quote in rupees that you have before any work begins; your bank or transfer service shows the amount in pounds on the day. Payment is in stages that follow the making, set out in writing on WhatsApp before the cloth is cut. Duty and tax are paid separately to the courier on arrival, never to us.
