For brides in Anand and Nadiad

The closest of all, and the only thing distance really changes about a bridal order is how easily you can be in the room while it is made.

Anand is about 40 km from the studio on Old Padra Road in Vadodara — under an hour, and the shortest journey of any city on this list. That makes the full made-to-measure process straightforward for a Charotar bride: three fittings in person as the piece is built, with the design and the decisions settled on WhatsApp in between. Nadiad, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Karamsad, Petlad and Borsad are all the same distance or less.

Forty kilometres is close enough that none of the usual compromises apply. A bride from Anand or Nadiad can be fitted exactly as a bride from Vadodara is, and the studio would rather she was.

That is worth saying plainly, because distance is the one thing that genuinely changes a bridal order — not the design, not the crafts, not the price. Only how often you can stand in front of a mirror while the piece is still changeable.

Near enough for all three fittings

A bridal lehenga is fitted three times as it is built: once early, once with the embroidery in place, and once near the end when a few millimetres either way is all that is left to decide.

The reason for three rather than one is weight. A piece gains real weight as the hand work goes on, and weight changes how a garment sits, where it pulls and how the skirt falls when you turn. A lehenga fitted before the embroidery and never again is how a piece ends up beautiful on a hanger and wrong on a body. From Anand you can have every one of those fittings without rearranging your week.

Bring the shoes you intend to wear — the floor length of a lehenga depends entirely on the heel — and any jewellery you have inherited and plan to wear, so the neckline and the work can be judged against it.

And it still works if you would rather not

Being close does not make visiting compulsory. Measurements can be taken on a WhatsApp video call of about twenty minutes and the finished piece couriered to Anand or Nadiad, exactly as it is for families abroad.

Please do book before coming, though. The studio is small and by appointment, Monday to Saturday from two to seven, precisely so that a family can take its time without being hurried — which also means an unannounced visit may find it busy with somebody else’s fitting.

What gets made for Charotar families

Bridal lehengas, panetar and gharchola for the ceremony, and the wedding week around it — mehendi, haldi, sangeet and reception — for the bride, her sister, the bridesmaids, the mothers and the men. Chaniya cholis for Navratri and festive wear for Diwali.

Five crafts, all worked by hand in the studio: zardozi, gota patti, aari, mirror and thread, and bandhani.

When to start

Four weeks at most for a bridal order, start to finish, carrying roughly two hundred to six hundred hours of hand embroidery. Six to eight weeks before the wedding is comfortable, and the November-to-February season books out months ahead.

Being forty minutes away is not a reason to start late. The calendar is set by how many pieces are due on one date, not by how far anyone travels.

Questions from Anand

Do you make bridal lehengas for brides in Anand and Nadiad?

Yes. Anand is about 40 km from the studio — under an hour — so brides from Anand, Nadiad, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Karamsad, Petlad and Borsad can have the full process with three fittings in person, as easily as a bride in Vadodara.

How many fittings are there?

Three for a bridal order: once early, once with the embroidery in place, and once near the end. The reason is weight — a piece gains it as the hand work goes on, and weight changes how the garment sits and how the skirt falls when you turn.

Can I come without an appointment?

Please do not. The studio is small and by appointment, Monday to Saturday from two to seven, so an unannounced visit may find it busy with another bride’s fitting. Message on WhatsApp and we will fix a time around your journey.

What should I bring to a fitting?

The shoes you intend to wear, because the floor length of a lehenga depends entirely on the heel. Any inherited jewellery you plan to wear, so the neckline and the work can be judged against it. And whoever you trust to tell you the truth in a mirror.

Can it be done without visiting at all?

Yes. Measurements are taken with you on a video call of about twenty minutes and the finished piece is couriered — the same way pieces go to families abroad. Being close simply means you have the choice.

Is there a studio in Anand?

No. There is one studio and one designer, on Old Padra Road in Vadodara, about forty kilometres away. Everything that carries this name is cut and embroidered in that room.
