You do not have to live in Vadodara
A good designer is worth a journey — but most of the journey is no longer necessary. Measurements are taken on a video call, the work comes to you in photographs, and the piece is couriered if travelling is difficult.
The studio is on Old Padra Road. The brides are not.
Families come to Vadodara because the designer they want is here, and they have always been willing to travel for it. What has changed is how little travelling it now takes.
The same process that fits a bride in New Jersey without her leaving home works just as well for one in Anand, Godhra or a village two hours off the highway — and it means the trip you do make is spent on the fitting rather than on measurements you could have given from your own kitchen.
How it works from where you are
- First A conversation, before you travel Start on WhatsApp. The design, the colours, the embroidery and the budget are all settled in messages before anyone gets on a bus or a train. Photographs of what you have liked help more than any description, and so does saying what you do not want.
- Then Measurements, without the journey About twenty minutes on a WhatsApp video call, with a tape measure and someone to hold the other end. Nirali takes them with you rather than sending a sheet and hoping — she watches where the tape sits and corrects it as you go. This is the step people assume needs a visit. It does not. - During The making, with photographs The cloth goes on the frame and the karigars begin. Progress photographs come to the same WhatsApp thread, so you can see it growing without standing in the room.
- Finally One visit, or none at all Come to Old Padra Road for a fitting if you would like to — many brides want to, and it is worth the trip to see the work up close. If travelling is difficult, the finished piece is couriered to you instead. Hand-embroidered pieces are built with seam allowance, so a local tailor can make a small adjustment if one is ever needed.
What brides from out of town ask
I live outside Vadodara. How many times will I have to come?
Once, or not at all. The conversation happens on WhatsApp, the measurements are taken together on a video call of about twenty minutes, and progress photographs come to you. Most brides come once, to see the piece and try it on. If the journey is hard, we courier instead — the same way we send pieces to families abroad.
Can a bridal lehenga really be made without me visiting?
Yes, and it is ordinary for this studio. A good share of our work goes to families in the US, UK, Canada and Australia who are never measured in person. A bride two hours away is a far easier problem than one on another continent. What makes it work is that the measurements are taken with you on a call rather than posted to you as a form, so a badly held tape is caught while it is still in your hand.
Do you make for brides in other parts of Gujarat?
Yes. Whether you are coming from Ahmedabad, Anand, Nadiad, Bharuch, Godhra, Surat, Rajkot or a village with no designer of its own, the process is the same and the piece is cut to your body either way. The studio is in Vadodara; the work is not limited to it.
Do you courier within India?
Yes — anywhere in the country. Tell us the date you need the piece in hand, not the date of the wedding, so the courier is planned backwards from when you will actually wear it.
When should I start if I am travelling in for the fitting?
Four to six months before the wedding. The making itself is about twelve weeks, and it should be well underway before you visit so the trip is spent on the fitting rather than on decisions. If your date is closer than that, tell us honestly and we will tell you honestly what is still possible.
Can I come without an appointment?
Please do not — you may travel a long way and find the studio busy with a fitting. We are on Old Padra Road, near Manisha Char Rasta, Monday to Saturday from 2 to 7 pm, by appointment. Message on WhatsApp and we will fix a time around your journey.
What should I bring to the fitting?
The shoes you intend to wear, because the floor length of a lehenga depends entirely on the heel. Any jewellery you have inherited and plan to wear, so the neckline and the work can be judged against it. And whoever you trust to tell you the truth in a mirror.
Can my family come with me?
Of course. Most brides bring their mother, and many bring a sister or a friend. The studio is small and by appointment precisely so that a family can take its time without being hurried.
