The Mughal Garden

11 looks

Bridal lehengas and menswear photographed in Jaisalmer — on the fort’s rooftops and stairways, in sandstone courtyards and out in the dunes.

Jaisalmer, the Golden City

Jaisalmer stands at the edge of the Thar desert and is built of honey-coloured sandstone, which is why it is called the Golden City. Its fort rises over the old town and is still lived in, and beyond the walls the sand begins. The Mughal Garden was photographed across all of it: on the fort’s rooftops and stairways, in sandstone courtyards and arched doorways, out in the dunes, and in one frame at night by the glow of a fire.

What the photographs show

Sage and mint lehengas worn with wine and maroon dupattas; ivory and cream skirts with soft green; a navy patchwork lehenga; a rose-pink skirt under a deep maroon dupatta; aubergine with a pale-blue veil. There is a red sherwani among them. The brides are shown alone and in threes — on the fort wall, in a stone window, seated on steps, and on a green swing hung from a tree in the sand.

Choosing from it

The palette sits with the stone: sage, ivory and wine against sandstone. If your venue is stone, sand or a courtyard, these colours will echo it rather than compete with it. Colour is settled at the sketch, so any look here can be made in another.

About The Mughal Garden

The Mughal Garden is a photographed collection from the Nirali Amin studio in Vadodara — bridal lehengas and menswear. It shows 11 looks.

Every bridal piece is cut to one body when it is ordered and hand-embroidered in the studio; how the four weeks are spent is set out on The Making page.

Ordering from The Mughal Garden

What is in The Mughal Garden?

Bridal lehengas and menswear photographed in Jaisalmer — on the fort’s rooftops and stairways, in sandstone courtyards and out in the dunes. It shows 11 looks. A look is one distinct outfit, so several photographs of the same outfit count once.

Can I still order a piece from The Mughal Garden?

Yes. Any of its 11 looks can be made now, cut to your own measurements — nothing here was made in advance, so there is no stock to run out of.

How long does a The Mughal Garden order take?

A bridal order takes four weeks at most, start to finish, from the first discussion to delivery. Six to eight weeks before the wedding is comfortable, and from November to February the studio is booked months ahead.

Nothing here was made in advance. Any of it can be made for you, cut to your own measurements.
