Colour and custom

Rang means colour. Rangriti was photographed in a studio hung with white drapes, with banana leaves and brass pots at the edges, and — for the men — outdoors on a lawn among palms and marigold garlands.

What the photographs show

Skirts caught mid-spin so the whole circle shows: navy with gold borders and a red trim, red with green and gold, purple with gold stripes, light blue with green panels, a wine-dark one with a gold hem, green with gold. Dupattas cross the body in taupe, mustard and crimson. For the men there are kurtas in copper, indigo, black with blue embroidery, mustard with brown stripes, ivory with a navy panel and a rust print.
